Module 1 – The History and Development of Indian Head Massage.
On successful completion of this module the candidate will be able to:

Introduce massage and explain its benefits.

LO2

Identify three other complementary therapies that compliment massage.

LO3 Explore the first documented uses of massage within the Indian family unit.
LO4 Describe what prompted Narendra Mehta to return to India and analyse what first enabled him to teach his techniques.
LO5 Define touch, detailing its benefits and importance to Narendra.
 

Module 2 – Its Causes, Effects and Reduction.
On successful completion of this module the candidate will be able to:

Identify two main types of stress.

LO2

Describe a meridian and show the benefits of Indian head massage.

LO3 Describe the function of a chakra.
LO4 List 10 signs of stress, identify their type and define cause.
 
Module 3 – The Effects of Massage on Various System of our Body.
On successful completion of this module the candidate will be able to:

Discuss how massage can affect:
The circulatory system
The muscular system
The lymphatic system
The respiratory system
The digestive system

LO2

Detail four contra indications for massage, together with their reasons for the THERAPIST and RECIPIENT.

LO3

Describe what type of massage movement stimulates and what type sedates showing why originality of movements is important.

Describe the “connecting” sequence.

LO5

Define the following techniques:
Thumb push
Pick-up and squeeze
Ironing down
Occiput friction

 

Module 4 – Healthy Hair.
On successful completion of this module the candidate will be able to:

Describe hair grown from foetus to adulthood.

Define, in detail, the structure of a hair.

LO3 Explain the nature and causes of dandruff and discuss five contributing factors to damaging hair.
LO4 Define the nature and causes of hair loss.
LO5 Explain the nature and causes of greasy hair and list why shampoo can damage the hair.
 

Module 5 – Massage Techniques for Physical and Mental Benefits.
On successful completion of this module the candidate will be able to:
