Module 1 - What is Aromatherapy?.
On successful completion of this module the candidate will be able to:

LO1

Introduce the characteristics of aromatherapy showing how essential oils are produced

LO2   Define the following processes:
  • Expression
  • Enfleurage
  • Phytonic Hydrodiffusion
  • Masquerade
LO3   Summarise your understanding of organically produced oils
 

Module 2 - Health and Safety.
On successful completion of this module the candidate will be able to:

  Learning Outcome
LO1

Identify the health and safety aspect of essential oils

LO2   Examine the advantages and disadvantages of massage
LO3   Discuss the reasons for taking great care when working with essential oils
LO4   Evaluate the following oils:
  • Hazardous
  • Toxic
  • Dermal/Skin Irritant
  • Sensitisation
  • Phototoxic
 

Module 3 - Looking After the Therapist.
On successful completion of this module the candidate will be able to:

LO1

Discuss the aspects of health, safety and special needs with regards to the therapist

LO2   Identify five important points a therapist should consider for their health and safety
LO3   Summarise the importance of putting the practitioner's needs first
 

Module 4 - Stress – Its Causes, Effects and Reduction.
On successful completion of this module the candidate will be able to:

Examine and analyse the characteristics of stress showing how it can be overcome

LO2   Describe how the immune system can be effected by stress
LO3   Discuss the effect physical stress can have on the body
LO4   Introduce three methods of stress reduction other than Aromatherapy
 

Module 5 - Massage for those with Severe or Terminal Illness.
On successful completion of this module the candidate will be able to:

Examine severe or terminal illnesses, describing how they affect our body and ways to reduce stress they cause

LO2   Summarise Parkinson’s disease
LO3   Identify three chief characteristics of cancer
 

Module 6 - Interactive Massage for those with Learning Difficulties.
On successful completion of this module the candidate will be able to:

Examine the benefits of Aromatherapy summarising the importance of physical contact

LO2   Describe positive and negative aspects of touch
LO3   Discuss how people with special needs can benefit from Aromatherapy
 

Module 7 - Special Therapists.
On successful completion of this module the candidate will be able to:

Discuss the importance of massage techniques and equipment placement for the physically challenged

LO2   Evaluate how a therapy room should be furnished for an individual confined to a wheelchair
LO3   Identify safety precautions therapists should take when working alone
 

Module 8 - Aromatherapy and Animals.
On successful completion of this module the candidate will be able to:

Introduce the Aromatherapy remedies used to alleviate ailments in pets

LO2   Discuss the procedure for eradicating fleas
LO3   Summarise the oils you would use in he treatment of arthritis
LO4   Analyse the procedure you would follow when treating a horse with a limp
