Module 1 – Nature of a Client’s Illness.
On successful completion of this module the candidate will be able to:

Examine the purpose and process of psychotherapy, treatment offered and the format for evaluation

LO2   Define the role a therapies plays
LO3   Summarise how a person begins life
LO4   List 3 areas an evaluation should take into consideration
 

Module 2 - General Appearance and Behaviour.
On successful completion of this module the candidate will be able to:

LO1

Discuss what observations you should make regarding a client's appearance and behaviour

LO2   Examine the following:
  • Delusions
  • Hallucinations
  • Illusions
LO3   Identify the different categories of delusions
LO4   Define the makeup of a constructive diagnosis
 

Module 3 - Treatment by Communication.
On successful completion of this module the candidate will be able to:

Summarise the importance of communication in psychotherapy and the various methods of implementation

LO2   Discuss what may be included in supportive therapy
LO3   Examine the basis of supportive psychotherapy
LO4   Analyse what is termed as the essence of brief psychotherapy
 

Module 4 - Functional Mental Disorders.
On successful completion of this module the candidate will be able to:

Introduce and discuss the functional neuroses

LO2   Explain your understanding of a hysterical reaction
LO3   Define an obsessive compulsive reaction
LO4   Describe how you would treat an obsessive compulsive reaction
 

Module 5 - Affective Disorders.
On successful completion of this module the candidate will be able to:

LO1 Discuss the group of disorders which are primarily a reaction to stress and give suggested treatment
LO2   Summarise the conditions mentioned under affective disorders
LO3   Analyse depressive illness
 

Module 6 - Psychosomatic Reactions.
On successful completion of this module the candidate will be able to:

Summarise your understanding of psychosomatic reactions

LO2   Examine anorexia and hypochondria with their respective treatments
LO3   Discuss what might be considered as a presenting feature of depression
 
Module 7 - Presenting Complaint.
On successful completion of this module the candidate will be able to:

LO1 Analyse the contribution of intelligence, emotional integration an instinctual drive to the personality and introduce the psycho-dynamic theory
LO2   Evaluate the meaning of intelligence
LO3   Introduce the theory of psycho-dynamics
LO4   Identify the reasons for material being repressed by the client
 
Module 8 - Hypnosis.
On successful completion of this module the candidate will be able to:

LO1 Discuss hypnosis and the role it plays in therapy
LO2   Examine drawbacks of performing hypnosis tests
LO3   Summarise fundamental principles of behaviour therapy
